Qualities/Values

Name: Jared
Age: 22
Gender: Male

01. In your opinion, what are one or two of your strongest personality traits?

One or two? I could give you nine or ten. I try my best to live the Scout Law as an Eagle (Yeah, laugh away). We consider it our goal to be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. I’m not too good about the Thrifty, Reverent, or Clean ones.

02. What is one of your own biggest character flaws? Is it a flaw you only see in yourself or have others pointed it out?

One of my biggest flaws can also be viewed as one of my greatest attributes. I have a great ability to trust. Once you’ve earned my trust it is very hard to lose it unless you directly attack me, be it physically or otherwise. Unfortunately my capacity for trust has lead to some less than pleasing encounters, but over all I guess I’ve not learned my lesson yet.

03. What is the worst quality you believe that a person can possess? Why?

Disloyalty. It leads to lies, obviously betrayal, can lead to pain, suffering, even death for the main person it effects or even a large group of people. Simple acts of disloyalty have signaled the deaths of thousands and the destruction of entire countries.

04. What qualities do you most admire in a person? Why?

Honesty over all else. Even a disloyal act can be forgiven if the transgressor is honest and straight forward about the event. Usually if a person is honest, more positive attributes tend to go hand in hand. Honesty and loyalty are usually the most common that you will see.

05. Name a person, alive, dead or even a character from a movie or book, that you most admire. Why do you admire this person?

Marcus Cole of Babylon 5. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, he is a member of a neutral group called the Rangers. They watch the borders of space fairing races for signs of conflict and assist in mediation or defense. Marcus in particular is noted for alerting the Rangers and the command of B5 to the awakening of the Shadows (One of the older races in the galaxy who believe the younger races should evolve through chaos and survival of the fittest). He most certainly falls under the “Dashing Hero” role, having a quick wit and great (though sometimes dry) sense of humor. Also a reason I can look up to Marcus is his devotion to his friends and family. He became a Ranger as part of a promise to his brother. He protected a diplomat and a friend from assassination nearly at the cost of his own life. In the end, he gave his own life to save the life of his romantic interest by using a device to transfer life energy from one person to another (it was originally used as a form of capital punishment).

06. If you were faced with a boggart what shape would it be? Why do you fear this?
A boggart takes the form of the thing you fear the most. I cannot think of a thing that I fear, but more an idea or feeling. But what form would failure take? Would it be the sight of a friend or loved one’s broken body? The notification of your termination from a job or expulsion from school? Failure has so many forms and so many possibilities that I’m not sure what specific form my boggart would take. Failure has always been a pressure. Always having to live up to the expectations or needs of family and friends. It’s honestly the first thing that came to mind when I thought of fear.

07. If you looked into the Mirror of Erised, what would you see? Go into as much detail as possible.

I’m going with the first thing that comes to mind here and that would be a full fledged blacksmith shop. A friend and I have been working towards this end for years, but we haven’t the funds or a location to put it. Our main drive has been to forge blades and armor as commission pieces for people who go to ren festivals. It would be nice to have a place to work on a regular basis that had all the tools we could need and use towards that end. I honestly think that would be the most enjoyable job for me and that in the end would make me happy.

08. Go to this site: Birth months. Get your birthmonth, copy all the qualities under that month, BOLD 5-10 that fit you the most, STRIKE the ones that do not apply to you.

MARCH:
Attractive personality. <s>Sexy.</s> Affectionate. <s>Shy and reserved.</s> Secretive. Naturally honest, generous and sympathetic. Loves peace and serenity. Sensitive to others. Loves to serve others. Easily angered. Trustworthy. Appreciative and returns kindness. Observant and assesses others. Revengeful. Loves to dream and fantasize. Loves traveling. Loves attention. Hasty decisions in choosing partners. <s>Loves home decors.</s> Musically talented. Loves special things. Moody.

09. Please pick a color from this Color Symbolism Chart that you feel fits you the best. Copy and paste it here. Why do you feel this suits you?

Red can symbolize many things; from blood, to love, to infatuation. Basically red symbolizes strong emotions, or things of strong emotions rather than intellectual ideas. For example, red can symbolize excitement, energy, speed, strength, danger, passion, and aggression. Red also signifies the color of the sun: a symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life-force into human beings. Red is also looked upon as a sensual color, and can be associated with man's most profound urges and impulses.

Aside from red being one of my favorite colors from childhood, it can represent impulsiveness and a generally energetic nature. Out of the chart, the descriptions here describe me the best. I’m usually fairly energetic (just don’t catch me early in the morning) and can most certainly be impulsive about certain things. Probably why I don’t have control of the reigns to the checkbook.

10. If you could have a Time Turner or a Felix Felicis potion, which would you pick? Why? For what would you use the item? Would you use it for something specific in the past, or present, or even something in the future? Explain.

I’d probably lean more towards the Time Turner. While a potion of good luck would certainly come in handy, a Time Turner would allow you to fix something that went wrong. That is unless you were dead, of course. On the other hand, the luck potion might prevent it from occurring in the first place. Meh, I’d rather get the experience of buggering something up so that I’d know what not to do in the future. I’d more than likely use a time turner to work multiple jobs and still get the time to get enough sleep to handle them, so I’d say it was rather for personal gain in the present and future.

11. What types of memories would you put in the Pensieve? And why would you choose those?

After giving it some thought I’d have to opt for the happier memories. Putting memories into a Pensive doesn’t eliminate them from your mind, so using it to purge bad or horrifying memories wouldn’t work. Perhaps keeping memories of important events like weddings, births, parties, etc. What better at the end of a bad day at work than to essentially immerse yourself in the best birthday party you ever had? Of course it wouldn’t hurt to use that as a fool proof shopping list either.

In Hogwarts

12. How do you feel about the Dark Arts in general? Explain in detail!

In my opinion the Dark Arts only have a bad name due to those who have misused the spells. Magic is not inherently good or evil, the intention behind its use is what matters. For an example, even the unforgivable curses have some practical application in combat against or obtaining information from a dark wizard, though their use is not permitted by law.

13. Which character from the Harry Potter world do you feel you relate the most to and why?

After the reflections that we see of the young Prof. Snape in the last few books I’m going to lean heavily towards him. The taunting that he received from the Marauders sparked the recollection of several events in Jr. High for me. While I don’t quite think I’m headed to becoming a Death Eater to get back at people, I definitely can sympathize with Snape there.

14. Which character from Harry Potter is your favorite and why?

Favorite character? There are so many to chose from and almost everyone has something going for them that could cast them in that light. There are people you love and people you absolutely hate (but you love the depth of the character that drives you to hate them). To have to choose one particular character out of all? Mrs. Weasley. Why Molly? Even in the worst circumstances (The attack on Mr. Weasley in the 5th book, not to mention Fred and George’s fates in the last book aside) she seemed to be pleasant and upbeat. I really don’t think that you could ask for a better person to have around to keep spirits up.

15. Which character from Harry Potter is your least favorite and why?

Honestly, I’d have to say the young James Potter. The guy was completely pompous, probably the embodiment of every single attribute of the people I hated in school. I couldn’t stand his overwhelming arrogance portrayed in the flashbacks and can only hope that something changed later on or I’d really have to wonder about Lily’s taste.

16. As a student at Hogwarts, how would you spend your free time? Explain!!

More than likely either trying out for an official Quidditch team or perhaps playing on an intermural team (though I don’t believe the existence of one has ever been mentioned). Either that or experimenting with potions ingredients for alternate results, much like Fred and George’s Skiving Snackboxes.

17. What do you think your favorite and least favorite classes would be? What teachers would you favour? What teachers would you loathe? Why?

Oddly enough, Potions would be a favorite. Out of all the courses it bears the closest semblance to chemistry in the Hogwarts class schedule. To be brutally honest, I was always horrible at the book work of chemistry, but labs were always a walk in the park. From what we see of the Potions courses in the books, it appears to be more a lab work class than anything else. None of that annoying equation balancing.

Herbology would be at best a bore at worst a failure. I’ve never been a fan of things of the green leafy variety, doubt I ever will. My idea of plant care is watering them to make sure they don’t turn all brown and wilty. Having an entire course on how to run a magical plant greenhouse seems as appealing to me as Divination did to Ron and Harry.

Now as far as the teaching staff… I will start with the loathe. Prof. Binns would be the first that comes to mind as the one course I can’t stand is History (especially with a boring teacher). Following that would probably be Prof. Trelawney, mainly because I’d probably think she had no business teaching the class.

Depending on the situation, Prof. McGonagall would probably be a favored teacher, unless I was getting into trouble. She may be fair but I’d rather not be on the discipline end of her personality.

18. Which of the Harry Potter books was your favorite and why?

I’m going with the Half Blood Prince here. It seems to be the rising point in the story, things are coming to a head, the battle with the Dark Lord is imminent, the future hangs in the balance. All that dramatic stuff. We learn of the Horcruxes and in turn Dumbledore and Harry’s quest to find and eliminate them. We also have the curious behavior of Draco and his use of the Room of Requirement, not to mention his eventual conflict within himself and with Dumbledore.

19. If you could change ONE thing in the series, what would it be and why? Since many people choose similar things please explain your personal feelings on the subject.

Going to be a spoiler for some. I would have killed Percy in book 7 rather than Fred. I think that his last act being to come and make up with his family would have been much better for dramatic effect than to off Fred, then show little of its impact on the family other than them huddled around his body before the final battle.

20. Which house do you feel you belong in? What house do you think you wouldn't belong in? Why?

Honestly, I could see myself in any House other than Ravenclaw. They’re described as the more booksmart group, or at least the group that most values intelligence, wit, and knowledge. I think I’ve learned more from casual reading and experience than I would absorb from hours in a classroom. In my mind that puts me out of Ravenclaw.

Looking at the core tenants of the houses, I’d lean towards a fencepost standing on Hufflepuff and Gryffindor because of my firm stance towards honesty and loyalty which seem to be a mainstay of the two houses.

Misc.

21. Why do you want to be part of this community? Will you remain active in the sub-communities and voting after you've been stamped in a house?

Well, it seems that my previous RP group has degenerated into God-moding and exceptionally strange mythological slash fiction. I was looking for another place to call home and the Headmistress and Deputy Headmistress encouraged an application. And yes, I would do my best to remain active if for no other reason than the severe beatings that Headmistress A and Diana would give me at work if I were to not interact upon joining.

22. How did you hear about us? If it was from someone, please state the journal name, if you saw an ad somewhere, please say where and if you remember also say who placed the ad.

I work/worked with Headmistress A and Diana. Not to mention the fact that they slapped the url onto my forehead… quite literally.

August 1, 2006, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes

Yeah, so I've finally caved in and made a LJ at the behest of Lyndsey and Diana and I'm looking into their HP group. Looks pretty interesting. To be honest anyone that's filled out the bloody application has to be dedicated, I'm going to have to actually put some thought into some of these questions. >_<

That being said, I need to fiddle around with settings to find something I like as far as looks... that and just figure out all the little functions.

*reminds self to hunt down Sovy's LJ as well*
